Facilities and Purchasing Committee

Attendees:

Linda Duchette-Ashman

Gary Friedlander

Jerry Novick

Chris McGinley

Pat Guinane

- Bills

o Many pupil service contract bills, out of district placements – payments against annual contracts

o Cryptic discussions about page and item numbers – did include some legal and life insurance bills

o Lap top replacements 1300 computers for incoming freshman and staff – about $1,000 each. Total $ amount not discussed, but I assume it was for $130K

o Wii fitness program (will now be at LM and HHS)

o PA Cyber Charter – Vic will follow up with the number of student placements

o Graduation – this lead to some discussion about considering Villanova for next year’s ceremony. McGinley reported that the current plans are to have shuttle buses to St. Joe’s and no reception after to ease up on the crowdedness. Friedlander requested that a phone call be placed to Villanova to see if the date could be reserved.

- Novick asked about the proposed exclusion of the 2% increase to the PA state budget and how that would impact LMSD. McGinley reported that they included no increase in the budget, so there would be no impact if it is excluded.

- Purchasing

o Boiler replacement Madson Ford Rd. facility

o Library book protection system at Harriton – rebid, came in at $18K

o GPS for buses

§ Improve safety and security by providing alerts for speeding and out of area conditions

§ Verify stop times, pickups, etc.

§ Save fuel costs by reducing idling time

§ Transportation supervisors will monitor

§ Costs $23K annually, $21K for equipment, will be installed by LMSD staff (numbers are not exact because there are some service credits for the first 3 months)

Facilities and Purchasing 8/12/2010 (continued)

o Proposed that LMSD will maintain buses for Bryn Mawr College – Novick requested that they check with the insurance company first.

o Several contracts and amendments were discussed for:

§ Pool management

§ HVAC balancing

§ Soil and other surface testing

§ Moving

§ Air quality testing

o LMHS and HHS Construction

§ Everything on schedule, no major issues

§ Meeting with LMHS neighbors 2nd week in September about demolition

§ Moving to more bio-fuel for school buses with the installation of the new storage tank – starting with 5% vegetable oil, moving to 20%; will adjust as necessary; will apply for grant to offset higher cost of bio-fuel.
